Adapt Douglas County plan open for public comment

Adapt Douglas County plan open for public comment

Douglas County, Kansas has been developing a plan to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change. The plan and development process were designed to meet community’s priorities, account for assets and vulnerabilities, and recommend short and long-term policies and program development to respond to the realities of a changing climate.

Lawrence and Douglas County were included in the planning boundary for the greenhouse gas inventory and Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment in the Kansas City Regional Climate Action Plan adopted in 2021. Since then, Douglas County has worked to build community relationships through trained community coordinators, conducted interviews with residents of vulnerable communities and engaged the community through surveys, open public meetings and more.

The first draft of Adapt Douglas County is available for public input from November 2nd until November 30th, 2023.  To view the plan and to provide comments, please visit this link .
