Climate Action Plan to be honored by Missouri APA
The Missouri Chapter of the American Planning Associate (APA) will be awarding the Kansas City Regional Climate Action Plan their 2021 Outstanding Plan at their virtual conference on Monday, Jan. 31.
The Climate Action Plan is a collaboration between Climate Action KC (CAKC) and the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) and aims to transform the metropolitan area into a more resilient, equitable and healthy community with net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. It expands upon the greenhouse gas “Drawdown” strategies adapted for the region in our Climate Action Playbook, and reflects the impact that each type of action has towards that goal– using data from our GHG Inventory report and Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment.
A driving call to action for the plan is to engage with regional communities who are most vulnerable to climate change, and ensure they participate in the benefits of climate action. Part of the plan’s accessible platform is a user-friendly website where regional businesses, neighborhoods and nonprofit organizations can navigate action areas that interest them, and utilize proven techniques when formulating those actions together.
Each of the plan’s 67 diverse strategies across nine focused action sections — like Food Systems and Healthy and Resilient Homes and Buildings — can easily be accessed at kcmetroclimateplan.org.
