2024 has been off to a cold and dreary start. If you’re missing warmer, sunnier days, here are a few tips for dealing with the winter blues as a green commuter.
Try a different green commute mode
If you’re normally a bike commuter and not feeling up for biking in the cold, try taking RideKC or finding a carpool on the WAY TO GO app.
Get your bike ready for spring
Now is also the perfect time to get your bike tuned up as shops are much less busy than in the summer. This means you can expect much shorter turnaround times.
Make your voice heard in regional planning decisions
Complete one of the region’s transportation surveys, including Unified Government Transit’s comprehensive service analysis survey and the Mid-America Regional Council’s, City of North Kansas City’s and City of Riverside’s Missouri River North Trail Plan.
Download an audiobook from your local library to enjoy on your transit or carpool commute
The Kansas City Public Library, Kansas City Kansas Public Library, Johnson County Library and Mid-Continent Public Library all have audiobooks available for download online!
Boost your mood with an active commute
An active commute like biking can actually be a huge mood booster with a little planning and preparation. Watch one of our winter bike commuting tip videos below from Dave Reinert of Bicycle Depot KC and get your layers ready.
