To celebrate Energy Efficiency Day, ULI Kansas City and the KC Building Energy Exchange (a program of the Regional Climate Action Plan) toured the beautiful, sustainable apartment community Second + Delaware in the River Market. The development is the world's largest certified Passive House building.
Lawrence and Douglas County have launched a locally-specific Climate Action Plan process after participating as one of ten counties in the KC Metro Climate Action Plan. Community members are invited to be a part of the process.
Climate Action KC recently established the Building Energy Exchange KC (BE-Ex KC) in spring 2021 as a regional resource to help building owners, operators, and community members drive greater energy efficiency in the built environment. BE-Ex KC has announced the establishment of its board of directors which will shape its strategic direction for the next decade.
The Kansas City Building Energy Exchange is pleased to announce that the Kansas City metropolitan area was announced as one of seven global cities selected by the Urban Land Institute (ULI) to take part in a multi-year cohort that will put climate action at the center of energy efficiency advances in the built environment. Other cities include Austin, TX, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, MN, San Jose, CA, Shenzen, China, and Toronto.
Paired with Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolia (commonly referred to as GZM) in Poland, delegates from the Kansas City region will participate in an exchange program, visiting their paired city to discuss themes around climate change and the impending building renovation wave, education, job creation and economic innovation. Kansas City will welcome 18 international cities participating in the program to Climate Action KC’s Annual Summit in April 2022, with the culmination event taking place at Johnson County Community College on April 9. This will be an opportunity to convene an international community around the topics of climate mitigation and how to best move our region toward a net-zero economy.
The City of Kansas City, Missouri is in the process of updating the 2008 KCMO Climate Action Plan, and they need your participation! The city is integrating the framework provided by our Climate Action KC Regional Plan into the municipal plan update. Help them develop these ideas by participating in an online survey.
It's important to remember that the emissions generated from waste disposal into landfills represent only one stage of that product's life cycle. Waste and resulting emissions can occur at all stages of the life cycle, from resource extraction, farming, manufacturing, processing, transportation, sale and use. And these life cycles can be altered by recycling, reuse and other waste diversion actions.
At the COP26 global conference in November 2021, Roeland Park Mayor Mike Kelly shared examples of CAKC's efforts in the Kansas City metropolitan area, including the Regional Climate Action Plan and the Renewables Direct program available to municipalities in our area. The panel was broadcast live worldwide.
